Slovak Nationalism and/or Eurocentrism

Slovak nationality, as a construct of a modern nation, is inseparable from the cultural and political history of Europe. From a philosophical point of view, nationality is not only a social or political category, but also an ontological and epistemological phenomenon that reflects the self-awareness of the subject and the relationship with “otherness”. Eurocentrism, as an intellectual hegemony, often shapes concepts of nationality, limiting the recognition of regional identity and cultural self-awareness.

Philosophically, Slovak nationality is a dynamic process that exists in dialectics with the influence of Eurocentrism. Although European intellectual norms have shaped the conceptualization of nationality, Slovakia has maintained its cultural authenticity, the basis of which is language, history and collective memory.
